Our team has proven itself to be a consistent and reliable participant in the Japanese property market and has originated, invested in and transacted USD 5bn+. The team is jointly headed by Tadaaki Kurozumi and Tom Silecchia, who each bring over two decades of experience, including over six years’ successful track record together at Merrill Lynch. They jointly co-founded Merchant Capital in 2005 and subsequently joined us in 2014 following the acquisition of the firm.

Our Japanese team has cultivated a distinct sourcing framework to detect, analyze and execute on various investment opportunities. We have extensive experience with complex transactions, including debt workouts and structuring for tax efficiency, with a reputation for transacting quickly and discretely.


Tadaaki Kurozumi

Tadaaki leads branch management and operations, focusing on investment strategy, deal origination and structuring. He had successful private equity and real estate (RE) investment businesses at Merrill Lynch, Sumitomo Realty & Development and Merchant Capital. He holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, BS from the University of Tokyo and various RE qualifications; he is also certified as a first-class architect.


Tom Silecchia

Tom focuses on investor and lender relationships, transaction structuring and the overall Japanese business's investment strategy, management and operations. He has 20 years' experience in real estate and finance, and is fluent in Japanese. Tom is a graduate of Yale University and the Cardozo School of Law and is admitted to practice law in the states of New York and Connecticut.
